Computers are the devil...oh wait that's just mine
Well now that I'm back and everything, my parents finally decide to buy a new computer desk. Our's was too huge and dark (in my mom's words). Actually both of my parents have been saying this for a while, but yesterday they decided to go through with it.
We go to a few stores but ultimately decide on this cool glass one from JYSK (the closest thing I have to ikea, it's ok but nowhere near as good as ikea). So I'm dropped off at home so my parents can go and pick it up.
While my parents are out, I'm doing a little work on the computer and decide to check some facts out about computers running extremely slow because ours was like that. I always just thought it was because of XP and such. I learnt that we only had 64MB of ram. Evidently, you need at least 128 MB ram just to run windows XP. Oops! Total oversight on mybehalf when we bought XP. Everything running extremely slow makes sense now. I'm feeling pretty dumb at this point.
I make a decision, hmm maybe we could buy some more ram. Chrissy, I said, hmm how hard can that be? Maybe I should run this by my parents first, don't want to get my hopes up only to learn they won't fund more memory, as it wasn't exactly too cheap. My parents are all for it though, phew! I'm still a little sure on all this ram talk though so I get in touch with my computer building neighbour. He comes over and tells me all this info we need. My dad then asks my neighbor to go with him to pick our the memory card, seeing how he'd have a better idea than my dad on what to look for. While they're gone I'm putting together the new computer desk (the instructions say it should only take 20 minutes anyways).
3 hours later...
GOD DAMN TABLE!!!
20 minutes my ASS!!!
Where the hell did that screw go!!
ACK!!!! I was right this part is on wrong!! FUCK!!
neighbour = "hmmm this memory doesn't seem to be working. HP can be a bitch when it comes to memory. I'll keep trying though."
4½ hours later...
phew!! I finally got that mother-fucking table together. It's not totally level but I blame the basement cement floor, because there is no way I'm pulling apart this evil thing.
At which point my neighbour says =
"Uhh chrissy, it seems like your computer is actually 'el diablo'. Your computer really doesn't like this memory. Let me run home and get a dimm card I have and we'll try that. If that doesn't work, there really isn't much more I can say or do. This computer is 'el diablo' but I'll keep trying."
Turns out HP can mean "el diablo" when it comes to memory (ram).
Another hour or so later, we've finally given up on the memory thing. DAMN you hp!!!
1 am in the morning
f-u hp!! damn you!! why won't you accept the memory!!! Hmm maybe if I try I can get it. Just take this apart....
2 am in the morning
UGH!!! I really hate you!!
Internet here I come. I mean I have to be able to find the name of a compatible ram eh?
3 am in the morning
too tired to continue... this ram just won't work, I give up!! I'm going to bed...
next day @9am
Hmmm ok I'm going to try and find some compatible ram...
11 am
Ok I now have a list of different kinds. Future shop carries the brand but not that model, well let's go to the store and see if they can help me, plus we have to return the evil one..
@ future shop
Me: "excuse me? I need to buy ram.. 'insert story of upgrading'" (10 minutes later after been ignored)
Salesclerk: "ummm... uhhhh, I just need to get some keys to get in there" [pointing at glass case]
Me: "umm ok"
Salesclerk: "d'uhhhh it seems we don't have any that goes with what you need, try Best Buy, I'm sure they'll carry it" (mind you he didn't really have any clue about what I was talking about and couldn't help me at all... seriously who sends people away without really trying to help first)
@best buy
Me [pissed off (but not taking it out on guy, just annoyed], and in full rant mode, tell the sales guy my whole story]:help!
salesguy: "yes, hp does have an issue with that, but let's see what I can do to help"
me: yay and man is he hott, but that's not the point, think RAM!... hmmm ram, eh? i'd like to ram him...but must contain self, keep talking... "well I have a list here from the hp site and it lists these products as compatible, but you don't have them"
salesguy:"actually this company here [points to one on my paper and to the product] is actually a subdivision of this company"
me: "oh really? so you're saying that technically this one should work"
salesguy: "it should, no promises though"
me:"but it's a 133mhz, and i supposed need a 100mhz. I know you can use 133 and it'll just jump down, but you guys only have the 133, will that be ok?"
salesguy: "exactly, it should work though. Try putting it in where your memory ram is and see if it works. it if works in there on it's on, it's compatible if not, just bring it back and we'll think of something"
me: phew! "thanks!"
salesguy: "no problem"
So I'm all excited at this point. First he's all hott and nice, second he seems to understand what the hell he's doing and finally this memory ram should work.
@home an hour later
Oh my god!! It WORKS!!! It workS!!! I could so totally kiss that guy. I am the genius, and I rock, but now I'm exhausted. Maybe I should test the computer though. Heaven forbid it's only messing my mind (remember it is 'el diablo')...
few minutes ago
Phew! Still seems all good. Computer is way faster, I can't believe I ever thought it was running good before...
Well it's time for me to go to the movies...later days!
{............[!~*~!]............[!~*~!]............}
{..::current..mood::..} exhausted, but happy that I finally found some ram that worked
